PHIL341: Contemporary Metaethics |
What makes an action morally right or wrong? Ethical theories differ in their answers to this question, as they differ in their accounts of what 'the good' consists in. In this unit we explore and compare some of the most influential ethical theories, such as Consequentialism, Kantianism and Virtue Ethics. We examine important challenges to these theories, and consider some central questions in moral psychology such as the source and nature of moral motivation, and the relation between moral reason, obligation and motivation.
