PHYS440: Quantum Information and Computation

This unit provides the basis necessary to understand and undertake research in quantum information and computation. The essential principles of quantum physics (including linear algebra, unitary evolution, measurement, entanglement) and computer science (including computability and complexity of computing and communication) are introduced and applied to quantum information. The technology of quantum information is also discussed with applications selected from the topics of quantum key distribution, quantum communication (e.g. quantum teleportation and entanglement swapping) and quantum computation. Experimental realisations of coupled qubit systems are studied.
