PSY325: Principles and Applications of Learning

This unit examines how people and animals learn, and how their behaviours are later changed as a result of this learning. The lectures will cover some of the more important principles with a strong emphasis on applications to everyday life. These applications will include behaviour modification (stimulus control, reinforcement and extinction), goal setting, decision making, risk-taking, social learning, phobias and learned helplessness. The practical component of the unit allows you to apply these principles to your own behaviour in a self-regulation program conducted throughout the semester. This program will enable you to gain first-hand experience with the basic principles of behaviour change which are fundamental to many areas of psychological practice.

Evening students will be able to download lectures as MP3 files via the PSY325 website, but must attend the practicals/tutorials.
