RSN201: 19th-Century Russian Novel in Translation |
This unit will discuss the spectacular rise of the 19th century Russian realist novel, one of the most important genres of Russian literature. Students will be required to concentrate on three of the masterpieces of Russian prose such as Lermontov Hero of Our Time, Turgenev Fathers and Sons, Dostoevsky The Brothers Karamazov or Tolstoy Anna Karenina. Lectures and readings will be in English. Assessment is based on three essays of approx. 2,000 words each.
