SCED816: Learning Theory II

This unit will introduce students to advanced topics in learning theory. It will introduce students to theories that stress knowledge acquisition as more than the accumulation of facts, by covering theories of the development of expertise, problem solving and transfer of learning. Descriptive taxonomies of the development of skills and knowledge, such as Bloom's Taxonomy and SOLO, will also be considered. The unit will also introduce recent research into the role of communication in teaching and learning. The course will also examine the implications of the above for assessment design. Students will also learn to apply these theories to their own classroom practice.
