SOC182: Economy and Society

This introductory course offers students insights into the workings of the economy from a social perspective. The course considers a range of topics relevant to how social actors conduct themselves in the marketplace: how people get jobs, what role social networks play in migrant economies, and how inequality in the market emerges and is reinforced. Students will also investigate a range of practical questions about how we conduct ourselves in the market that deal with the role of trust, ethics and regulation in the economy and the social basis of organisational life.
