SOC236: Crime and Society

This course will introduce students to the main theories of crime, as well as to types of criminal behaviour. Particular attention will be paid to issues of race, gender, and class. Issues that will be covered include questions of criminal responsibility, domestic violence, hate crimes and crimes of the powerful. Students will be encouraged to re-examine the socially-constructed nature of crime and the role it plays in maintaining social order.
