TRAN838: Auslan Interpreting in Legal Settings

On campus session to be held 14-16 September 2007

The aim of this unit is to provide Auslan interpreting students with the opportunity to discuss and practice advanced interpreting skills in one specialised area of community interpreting, that is, legal interpreting. Students will analyse the complex linguistic, cultural and ethical challenges of interpreting in legal settings, with consideration given to a range of issues. Students will explore the theoretical foundations of the law. Legal terminology and roles of various participants in the legal system, as well as interpretation issues faced specifically by Auslan interpreters.
