AHPG896: Coptic I - Sahidic |
An introduction to the Coptic script and language. Sahidic is the first Coptic dialect into which Biblical texts were translated in the 3rd century and, as early as the 4th century, a Pan-Egyptian written dialect which boasts a rich literature, both original and translated. It began to be superseded by Bohairic as the standard literary dialect in the 9th century.
