AHST335: Byzantium: East and West |
This unit comprises the study of Byzantine history from Justinian to Alexios Komnenos. It focuses on the continuity of the classical tradition, and on contacts between the Byzantines and Arabs (East) and Mediaeval Spain (West). Major themes include the orthodoxy, tradition, historiography and the role of women in society.
