BBE200: Brain, Behaviour and Evolution |
This unit continues the integrative approach to animal behaviour introduced in BBE 100, Introduction to Brain, Behaviour, and Evolution. It uses case studies of field and experimental research to explore the biological basis of learning, memory and instinct. The course considers how genes and the environment together influence behaviour and uses examples from many different animal groups, including mammals and birds, to demonstrate how complex patterns of animal behaviour have evolved over time, in the context of reproduction, foraging, predator-prey interactions, navigation and social behaviour.
