BBE301: Neuroethology

BBE301 is an advanced course on the neuroscience and neurobiology of key sensory and behavioural systems. An in-depth look at sensory processes is followed by examination of the generation of action. Lecture materials based on a series of readings are further discussed in a seminar format in tutorials. In addition, hands-on practicals on invertebrate neuroethology are offered. Topics include echolocation in bats, auditory localisation in barn owls, codes for vision and audition, electric fishes and electroreception, decision making, navigation, learning and evolution. The course concludes with a discussion of the place of neuroscience in contemporary human life.
