CBMS215: Microbiology

This unit provides an introduction to the biological diversity of cells, from bacteria to plant and animal cell cultures. We discuss the role of microorganisms in natural environments and the ways they have been employed for practical benefits. Lecture topics include history of microbiology, microbial cell structure and function, microbial genetics and biodiversity, microbial growth, applied and industrial microbiology. The laboratory sessions provide students with essential skills and techniques used in microbiology and demonstrate principles taught in lectures.
