CBMS809: Biochemistry |
The unit examines the regulation at different levels of carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism. Subject areas discussed include Michaelis-Menten enzyme kinetics, allosteric enzymes, feedback inhibition and covalent and other modifications of enzymes. Other topics dealt with include the transport of molecules across membranes and macromolecular degradation. The unit also includes discussion of biosynthetic pathways and catalytic reactions. A background in organic chemistry and biochemistry would be advantageous.
