ELEC324: Feedback Control and Dynamic Systems

Introduction to feedback - adjusting the input of a system by comparing the desired output to the actual output. Examples of continuous and discrete feedback systems in telecommunications, computing and electronics. System dynamics. Stability and performance - why a systematic approach to feedback is required. Frequency-domain analysis - Laplace transforms, z-transforms, Nyquist theorem and Bode plots. Poles and stability. Control-system design. State-space description of dynamic systems and analogy to state machines, canonical state-space descriptions, state-space control design using pole placement. Robustness issues.
