ELS202: Information Management and Museums Practice |
This unit explores the philosophy of information organisation and the role of museums with emphasis on the preservation of natural and cultural heritage; the collection, preservation and provision of access to materials; mushrooming of stored knowledge related to digital storage of data: image capture, written materials, links to other sites; social and political background to information storage; copyright issues; and the role of curators in research, teaching, exhibitions and community outreach. Students will gain practical experience with digital curation of collectibles, for example, AdLib and explore Web based presentations, for example the Lachlan Macquarie Room.
