GEOS334: Fluvial Geomorphology and River Management

Day students: A compulsory 8 day field trip (20-27 April 2008) is an integral part of this unit.

This unit has been designed in partnership with stakeholders and employers to ensure it reflects work professional practice. This unit examines the interaction of river forms and processes, river evolution, impacts of human disturbance to rivers, fluvial sedimentology and sediment budgets. This provides the baseline knowledge required to use the River Styles framework, and undertake analyses of river condition and recovery potential. Emphasis is placed on river management processes and rehabilitation techniques within an Australian context. During a 7-day fieldtrip, students apply their skills and knowledge to rivers in coastal NSW (e.g. the Hunter Valley, I1awarra, Manning and Bega catchments).

This unit helps prepare students for employment in workplaces that include state government agencies, catchment management authorities, consultancies and local government.
