GEOS394: Applied Palaeontology and Biogenic Sediments

This unit aims to illustrate, with pertinent examples, the way that fossils (especially microfossils) can be utilised to investigate past environments, palaeoclimate, ecology, biostratigraphy, faunal turnover and extinction, and exploration for natural resources. This is a practical unit where students are introduced to and gain experience with using fossil and recent materials to solve important scientific problems. The unit is especially useful for students interested in biodiversity and ecology, palaeontology, environment science, quaternary geology and exploration geosciences.
