GEOS810: GIS Skills in Habitat and Wildlife Management

This unit introduces the underlying concepts of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and develops fundamental skills for GIS applications in the field of wildlife management. It has three components: GIS topics and skills for environmental purposes, use of remotely sensed data for environmental applications, and case studies and applications. Practical skills are a key element of the course and you will acquire skills with the software that is used by environmental management agencies. The main GIS software used is ArcGIS but other software is introduced at the on-campus session. Students enrolling in this unit must have access to a computer with the Windows XP operating system.
