LAW804: Heritage Law and Policy |
This unit examines the concept of heritage and the various mechanisms for conservation of both natural and cultural heritage, including underwater heritage, movable heritage and indigenous heritage. International initiatives for heritage conservation are examined and the challenges in developed, developing and socialist market economies to effectively implement such initiatives assessed. Legal regimes for heritage conservation at international, national, state and local levels are examined and case studies are used to illustrate the policy tensions inherent in environmental decision making in this area.
