MCSI320: Spirituality and Work |
Given the prominent role that work plays in our lives, there is a growing interest in the search for personal and communal meaning in work. This unit presents a Christian perspective on the spiritual life and explores the connections between spirituality and human labour. Drawing upon biblical perspectives on spiritual experience and some of the classic Christian writings on spirituality, this unit considers such issues as work and meaning, the humanising and dehumanising aspects of work, work as community, work as idolatry, work-related stress and suffering. This unit will also explore the traditional spiritual disciplines as they relate to the contemporary work place.
