OPTO222: Instrumental Optics |
Humans depend heavily on our visual sense, and optics enables us to see images! Optics also underpins the operation of many scientific and biomedical instruments and is increasingly important for modern consumer devices such as digital cameras. In this unit, the digital camera is used as an example to understand illumination, geometrical optics, lenses and image formation, and image detection and display. Finally, aspects of system design are discussed. The laboratory experiments illustrate the operation of some optical devices, and optical software modelling is also a focus of the unit.
