POL300: Media Politics |
This unit focuses on the press, radio and television in liberal democracies, particularly Australia. Part I reviews evidence and argument to do with ownership and control, the power of advertisers and the position of audiences; Part II examines the construction of news, questions to do with bias and objectivity, and the debate about media effects; Part III looks at challenges to public sector broadcasting (especially the ABC), the issue of multicultural broadcasting and regulatory issues around Australian content.
