PSYC880: Introduction to Theories of Counselling |
This unit provides an introduction to the theory and practice of clinical and counselling psychology for a variety of emotional problems in both children and adults. There is a balanced focus on theory, research and practice throughout the unit. Major theoretical frameworks used in clinical and counselling psychology will be reviewed, using interesting case studies and real-life examples. A practical component involving role-plays and expert feedback in a small group format will be used to practice basic therapeutic strategies. There will be four workshops which will be structured as follows: lectures in the morning and then practical skills in the afternoon.
