ACES886: Contemporary Issues in Mathematics Education
Recent and proposed reform in mathematics teaching, curricula and assessment practices at state and national level is demanding broader professional knowledge and skills. New directions in research and curricula have focused particularly on the integration of working mathematically processes, data exploration, statistical reasoning and patterns and algebra. This unit provides students with the opportunity to examine current research and new pedagogies in the teaching and learning of mathematics from early childhood to adulthood. Current critical issues such as the impact of national and system-wide initiatives in teaching and learning mathematics will be examined. Participants will have the opportunity to focus on an issue or specialised topic relevant to their professional practice. This unit complements ACES885 Technologies in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
