ENGG814: Teletraffic Engineering

Teletraffic engineering is needed to ensure that telecommunications systems and data networks have the capacity to deliver data at the required level of service, defined in terms of throughput, delay, loss and other criteria, in a cost-effective manner. Teletraffic engineering uses models of traffic and systems, often based on data measurements from actual systems, and analyses them mathematically to give quantitative answers that designers and network administrators use to deliver system performance. This unit introduces students to the concepts and techniques used to model and analyse data traffic, network devices and entire networks in modern telecommunications systems. This includes the basic statistical and queuing systems concepts and techniques that are the basis of the mathematical analysis used.
