GEOS853: Environmental Applications of GIS and Remote Sensing

This unit builds on the GIS skills introduced in GEOS801 Introduction to Geographic Information Science for Postgraduates and GEOS810 GIS Skills in Habitat and Wildlife Management and includes more advanced concepts and practical techniques. Topics include: analysis of landscape and environmental variables; use of remotely sensed data to derive information on land cover; geostatistics; and a range of case studies including catchment hydrology, pollutant distributions and land clearing. Practical sessions include techniques for data collection and management, analysis and communication.
