ICOM815: Communication and Power Paradigms

This unit seeks to explore global media production and consumption. The Gulf War, the 9.11 attack on the World Trade Centre and the World Cup Soccer are examples of media events that are depicted, constructed, interpreted, circulated, and consumed on a global scale. The images of these events are direct outcomes of global power relations in many ways. The unit encourages constructive critical thinking to develop an appreciation of the nature of media in relation to the concept of power and domination.
