ICOM821: Intercultural Communication

This unit will address key issues in intercultural communication. We will study (and apply) relevant theories and concentrate on identity, power, globalisation, culture transition, taboo, and intercultural communication problems. We will identify areas where intercultural communication takes place (business, multicultural communities, politics) and draw upon current affairs. We will focus on key texts but there will also be practical work where we will assess strategies of successful intercultural communication in interpersonal and international situations.
