LING977: Language and Image in Media Discourse

Drawing on linguistics, communication studies and visual semiotics, this course explores media as a social, political and economic institution, genres of news and current affairs, analysis of multi-modal texts, developing and using news corpora, news and translation, modes of evaluation in news reporting, news values and ideology, new and alternative forms of media.
