PSY930: Professional Practice

This unit aims to teach fundamental interviewing, assessment and formulation skills related to the professional practice of Clinical Psychology. It teaches students how to think conceptually about a variety of common psychological difficulties and presentations, interview strategically so as to gather information necessary to understand a clients strengths and difficulties, identify any needs or difficulties present, diagnose the most common presenting disorders, develop a formulation, develop and negotiate a positive treatment plan with clients, learn to administer the Macquarie Diagnostic, Schema and Formulation Interview, and prepare themselves for placement in the Rod Power Psychology Clinic. One of the aims of this unit is that students develop their skills in critical analysis, problem solving and creative thinking.
