PSY935: Groups
This unit is designed to provide students with an understanding of the dynamics of small groups, and opportunities to develop skills in leading and facilitating psycho-educational and therapeutic groups. An experiential laboratory is integral to the unit. Topics covered include stages in group development, types of leadership styles, and factors that maximise the benefits for clients of group counselling treatment. Research relevant to the therapeutic effects of group counselling is considered. Students are required to undertake a number of practical exercises regarding group dynamics and facilitating group processes during the workshop.
