PSYC905: Issues in Professional Practice

This unit is offered in alternate years.

This unit focuses extensively on ethical practice. The APS Code of Professional Practice will be reviewed and discussed as well as a range of codes relevant to counselling psychologists. Students will be introduced to ethical issues and decision making confronting counselling psychologists. Relevant legislation will be reviewed (eg various mental health Acts of NSW, including the Psychologists Registration Act) and the role of the counselling psychologist as an expert witness will also be discussed. Emphasis will also centre on the role of the psychologist, including issues associated with establishing a consultancy, marketing counselling psychology skills and maintaining competency and skills in a changing environment.
