PSYC912: Group Processes and Counselling
This unit covers the fundamental dynamics of small groups and examines the role of leading/facilitating a therapeutic group. An experiential laboratory experience is integral to the unit. It is not compulsory but highly recommended. Topics covered include the stages in group development, types of leadership styles and the factors which maximise the benefits for clients of group counselling treatment. Research relevant to these processes which influence the therapeutic effects of group counselling will be discussed. Students will be encouraged to undertake outcome research on a counselling group.
