ACCG353: Corporate Financial Design

This unit further develops the fundamentals of Corporate Finance taught in ACCG253, and more importantly it extends the range of topics covered. ACCG353 is taught from both a conceptual and technical perspective. It challenges the student to consider a comprehensive set of factors that influence organisations in their payout, investment and finance decisions. For example, the decision to invest in a 'real world' project is much more complex than what a simple NPV analysis makes it out to be. The decision might reflect the personality of a CEO, the composition of competitors, expectations about fluctuations in the economy etc. In this sense, students need to be able to appreciate the differences between theory and practice. Further, students are encouraged to read academic and professional finance journals as well as the financial press.
