ASN310: Global Circulation of Asian Popular Culture
This unit explores Asian popular cultures in a global and cross-cultural context. It looks at notions of hybridity, intertextuality and change within the context of diverse cultural encounters in the region and beyond. The specific focus is on Chinese and Japanese popular cultures in relation to youth cultures and social issues facing today's youth. This is a general education unit and no prior knowledge of Japanese or Chinese language is required. It is advantageous if students undertake 100-level cultural units in Chinese and/or Japanese before enrolling in this unit.
