2009 Course Handbook

DANC200: Music Theatre

Take a journey through the vast and fantabulous world of Music Theatre. Including, but not limited to, 'the musical' this unit mixes theory and practice in lectures and workshops that investigate theatre built on movement and sound. From Broadway to Burlesque, from RiverDance to Marilyn Manson, from Greek choruses to Billy Elliot, from Krumping to Keating, from Mardi Gras to Gamelan, DANC200 creates fresh perspective and deepened understanding of a genre often under-valued and regarded as frivolous. Students will consider methods of music theatre appreciation and the interplay of movement and musical sound in dramatic settings. No technical dance, singing or musical knowledge or experience is required.
