DANC220: Contemporary Dance 1
Based in dance principles rather than generic technique, Contemporary Dance 1 is structured around the physical realities of weight, flow, rhythm, extension, succession, fall and recovery, muscular memory, creativity, improvisation, focus and partnering. This 'dance class' mode of instruction employs a wide variety of dance genres to allow students to discover their own unique style while improving their skill and fitness. A variety of teachers will offer instruction in Modern Dance, Hip Hop, Contact Improvisation, Yoga and Social Dance forms. Students will have opportunities to create their own dances. Students will also articulate, describe and analyse dance practices in written assessments. Assessment is based on improvement, so this unit suits both the experienced dancer and the novice.
