ECDO200: Careers and Work

Careers and Work enables students to recognise, create and continuously develop their own career opportunities. This unit consists of six integrated learning modules that introduce students to career and workplace concepts and systems. We examine the impact of demographic, economic, globalisation, organisational and social factors on the changing landscape of Australian and global workplaces as well as on personal career development; we look at notions of personality, interests and values on individual career patterns and study a range of decision making skills to develop career maturity. We conclude the unit by assessing the nature and processes involved in managing careers and review models of career enhancement that lead to maintaining high employability.

This unit offers a unique opportunity to engage with career planning in an online format. Student reflection is encouraged throughout the unit. Weekly online discussions will frame student learning as learners post their reflections using guided activities. Core and additional readings are essentially accessed through the e-reserve collection. All assessments are practically oriented including a compulsory on-campus session.
