ECH231: Young Children's Language, Literature and Literacy

This unit explores the theory and practice of early childhood language, literature and literacy development. It begins with the study of the literary qualities, and language and literacy potential of a wide range of children's literature as well as everyday texts. It also focuses on children's language development as the child moves from home to prior to school setting and on to school. Early reading and writing processes are explored, and the role of the teacher in provisioning early years' educational environments is emphasised.
