2009 Course Handbook
ECHP122: Early Childhood Reflective Practice 1
This unit incorporates theory and practice by combining university based study with practical experience. The course work will concentrate on an exploration of the early childhood teacher's role in teaching and learning, and students will be prompted to critically reflect on contemporary issues related to the practice of teaching young children. Students will also acquire foundational skills for curriculum decision making. They will develop skills of observation-based assessment of children's interests, development, and learning. Students will then use these assessments to derive teaching implications for children, including the formation of appropriate learning/developmental outcomes, the selection of engaging experiences, materials, and teaching strategies, and the employment of reflective evaluation techniques.
