ELEC290: Linear Circuits

This unit develops the key skills of modelling passive and active circuit elements, and analysing circuits including these models in both the time and frequency domains. For passive circuits, topics covered are ideal electrical components, energy dissipation and energy storage, Kirchhoff's laws, network analysis, transient versus steady-state response, time-domain versus frequency-domain analysis, Bode plots, first-order and second-order circuits, and simple filters. For active circuits, the unit concentrates on analysis of ideal and non-ideal operational amplifiers, design of amplifier circuits and principles of hierarchical design, operational-amplifier-based active filters and oscillators, principles of feedback and stability, and MOSFET device physics and linear and switching behaviour.
