ELEC321: Communication Systems

Fourier theory; the frequency-time duality. Analogue amplitude and frequency modulation. Digital communication systems: layered architectures; information theory; sampling; modulation and demodulation methods; source and line coding; multisymbol signalling. Communication networks: circuit and packet switching; LAN networks and standards. Noise and its effects: noise types and spectrum; information capacity; noise measures; noise performance of AM, FM, optical detectors; error-control coding and decoding; Shannon capacity.
