ENGL288: The Metamorphosis of Myth

The unit examines uses of classical myth in literature. It explores transformations of mythical figures and how cultures reinvent those figures in order to negotiate issues concerning sexuality and gender, freedom of choice, the desire to defy boundaries. The texts studied in the unit are by writers including Homer, Virgil, Ovid, Marlowe, and Shakespeare.
