GEOS328: Environmental Management
The skills of adaptive and reflective management are fundamental to implementation of 'solutions' to Resource and Environmental Management (REM) challenges. GEOS328 offers a conceptual understanding of ecology and land surface dynamics in order to establish the principles involved in various environmental management issues - for example, river rehabilitation, mine site management, bushfire management, windbreaks, and air pollution management. In order to emphasise its focus on practical outcomes, GEOS328 includes a number of guest lectures from environmental management professionals such as environmental consultants and Government. Case study materials are used from various national and international examples to explore the practical challenges of implementing management solutions. The unit also includes both on and off campus practical work exploring significant resource and environmental issues in the Sydney region.
