2009 Course Handbook

HRM201: Comparative and International Employment Relations

The unit builds on Human Resource Management by exploring comparative international HRM systems and practices. The scope of study extends to, for example, the UK, the USA, and ASIA. The unit compares and contrasts the broad environments in which HRM systems operate; the structure and role of Governments, agencies, employers and unions; and the pattern of interrelationships. It also explores approaches to applied issues such as recruitment, selection, performance appraisal, and issues related to managing diversity across international settings. Particular interest will be devoted to an analysis of reform directions and the implications for business performance.
