ISYS303: Advanced Applications Development

ISYS303 is an advanced unit covering enterprise applications development, and concentrating on the concepts and technologies for the development and deployment of modern distributed commercial systems. It focuses on the support and tools that integrated development environments (IDEs) provide to facilitate enterprise and business-to-business application development and integration. This unit takes a direct advantage of students' prior knowledge of application development and programming, and extends that knowledge on the study of advanced features of contemporary IDEs in support of teamwork production of software. Coverage includes such topics as advanced client-interface development, the use of web servers and application servers, as well as the connection to the back-end databases. Special emphasis is placed on how to construct and integrate systems so that they are supportable (ie understandable, maintainable and scalable). Students will complete a significant piece of practical work.
