2009 Course Handbook
LAW438: Access to Justice Placement Program
Entry to this unit is competitive. One group of selected students undertakes a one week course 'Practising in the Public Interest', comprising classes conducted by the Public Interest Advocacy Centre and a public interest placement with a law firm or organisation. The course is run in the summer break shortly before first semester, and in the mid-year break. Another group of selected students undertakes a one-day-a-week placement for ten weeks at Macquarie Legal Centre. Students are supervised in the centre, interviewing clients, attending court and working on legal matters. Students in both groups attend four evening seminars on campus. Seminars address theoretical and policy issues relevant to the placements. Students prepare written reflection and an assignment.
