LAW509: International Law
This unit provides an understanding of various international legal principles, rules, norms and practices, as well as their role in shaping and reshaping the contemporary international system, which is also put to the test over facts of our international life in order to assess its operation, adequacy and effectiveness in keeping pace with controversial international events. The rapid and profound transformation of international law in terms of its constantly expanding horizons and orientation is highlighted and commented upon. Do these remarkable changes represent the progressive development of international law? The unit is designed to be a blended version of elementary, theoretical and applied aspects of international legal system. Since the students are pursuing it for the first time in formal classes, the unit affords a general understanding of public international law. It also examines some controversial facts of our contemporary international life and their impact on shaping and reshaping of international law and order in the 21st century.
