LING342: Language of Science and Technology
This unit examines the characteristics of the language of science, mathematics and technology with special reference to the teaching of secondary science and mathematics in both English and English as a Second or Foreign Language setting. The unit also evaluates differing approaches to the teaching of English for science and technology and examines the principles of syllabus and course design, materials evaluation, collaboration with science and mathematics teachers and assessment. The unit is of interest to students who are looking to follow careers in English as a Second or Foreign Language and to those who are studying science or mathematics with a view to teaching.
